Neighborhood

Streeterville has neighborhood character despite the high-rise landscape, with locals who frequent the same coffee shops, recognize familiar faces on the Lakefront Trail, and gather at spots like Ohio Street Beach and neighborhood bars where regulars outnumber tourists. The density actually creates community rather than isolation, especially in buildings with rooftop decks and shared amenities where neighbors naturally connect over sunset views and summer barbecues. You’ll find that walkability breeds familiarity, from your go-to barista at Dollop to the dog owners you see every morning at the lakefront, creating that small-town feel within big-city convenience.

You absolutely don’t need a car to thrive in Streeterville, with everything from groceries to entertainment within walking distance and extensive bus routes connecting you to the rest of Chicago. If you occasionally need wheels, we’ve got a ZipCar directly on property for those spontaneous road trips or airport runs. But if you do own a vehicle, ReNew Waterside offers an indoor parking garage with EV charging stations, so you get the best of both worlds without the hassle of street parking or worrying about Chicago winters.

Streeterville ranks as one of Chicago’s most walkable neighborhoods, earning a Walker’s Paradise score that means daily errands don’t require a car. You’re one block from the Lakefront Trail, a quick stroll to Whole Foods and Trader Joe’s for groceries, and close enough to the Loop that some residents walk to work even in winter. Between extensive CTA bus routes running through the area and everything from coffee shops to cocktail bars within a few blocks, your feet become your primary transportation. Discover the walkable lifestyle waiting for you at ReNew Waterside.

Streeterville keeps you entertained without ever needing to venture far from home. Navy Pier delivers year-round attractions including summer fireworks, the Chicago Children’s Museum, and waterfront dining, while Ohio Street Beach becomes your sandy escape when the weather warms up. The Magnificent Mile puts world-class shopping and dining steps away, the Museum of Contemporary Art feeds your cultural side, and the 18-mile Lakefront Trail starts right in your backyard for biking, running, or just watching the lake do its thing. Check out our Neighborhood page to explore everything within walking distance.

Streeterville wins for anyone who values waterfront access, a slightly calmer vibe, and waking up to lake views instead of just city skyline. While River North brings the party with its concentrated nightlife and dining scene, Streeterville offers the same urban convenience with the bonus of Ohio Street Beach, direct Lakefront Trail access, and those unbeatable Lake Michigan views that River North simply can’t match. You get all the energy and walkability of downtown Chicago but with room to breathe, plus Navy Pier’s activities and that coveted lakefront lifestyle that makes summer in Chicago legendary.
